Consulting in its traditional
form is often unsatisfactory, both for the recipient and the deliverer.
Meetings, reports and presentations can seem to be achieving a lot, yet
leave behind little real benefit.
When "mentoring", we agree a well defined piece of work
where we feel progress could be made half-a-day at a time, or a
day at a time, and I then work alongside analysts, designers and
programmers helping create or refactor models, designs or code.
There is a better focus, there is a product and there is transfer
of expertise.
(For terminology pedants
(like me)).
